The organizing committee of the HASTAC 2014 Conference is very aware that hosting an international conference means that there is always people who cannot attend. Because HASTAC 2014 will be hosted by the Ministry of Culture in Lima, Peru, we are very excited to host many more attendees from Central and South America as well as from The Caribbean countries. However, this comes at the cost of losing some of our friendly faces from North America.
Several people, particularly graduate students, have expressed concern about the cost of travel to Lima, Peru. Since HASTAC is a nonprofit organization that does not charge dues and does not have corporate sponsors, it will not be possible for us this year to cover the cost of travel for participants.
However, before you throw in the towel, we want you to consider two things:
- HASTAC is willing to provide letters of support of your candidature in order for you to obtain financing from your own institution to help you cover the cost of your travel. To do so, simply send a request to with your full name, title, institution and e-mail address and we will be happy to assist you.
- Flying to Peru for HASTAC 2014 could be cheaper than you think! Here are a few cost estimates, as of March 25, 2014. These estimates are calculated via Expedia, with travel dates of April 23-28 (the conference runs April 24-27).

El Comité Organizador de la Conferencia HASTAC 2014 es muy consciente de que organizar una conferencia internacional significa que siempre hay personas que no podrán asistir. Como HASTAC 2014 será organizada por el Ministerio de Cultura en Lima, Perú, estamos muy contentos de acoger a mucho más asistentes de América Central y del Sur, así como a gente del Caribe. Sin embargo, esto también significa que este año no nos podrán acompañar algunos amigos de América del Norte.
Varias personas, y en particular los estudiantes de posgrado, han expresado su preocupación por el costo del viaje a Lima, Perú. Como HASTAC es una organización sin fines de lucro que no cobra cuotas y que no tiene patrocinadores corporativos, no nos será posible este año cubrir los gastos de viaje de ningún participante.
Sin embargo, antes de tirar la toalla, queremos que usted tenga en cuenta las dos cosas siguientes:
- HASTA está dispuesto a proporcionar cartas de apoyo de su candidatura para que pueda obtener financiamiento de su propia institución para ayudarle a cubrir el costo de su viaje. Day 1 – Arriving in Cusco a guide will wait for you at the airport to transport you to the hotel of your choice for rest and acclimation. At 13:45 pm, visit of the City of Cusco and its principal attractions: Plaza de Armas; Temple of Qorikancha and the ruins of Qenqo, Tambomachay Pucapucara and Sacsayhuman. Return to the selected Hotel. Participants spend the night in Cusco.
Day 2 – 6:30 am, the guide picks up the group from the hotels and drives them to the train station. The price of the tour includes a round trip train ticket. Arriving in Aguas Calientes, the guide provides a 2 hours tour of the City and Macchu Picchu. The group returns to Agua Calientes where they will be offered a lunch buffet. Around 4:00 pm participants return to train station. The train leaves at 4:40 pm. Back in Cusco, the guide will wait for the group to drive them back to their selected hotels.
Day 3 – Breakfast at the hotel and transport to the airport.
Día 1 – Arribo al aeropuerto de Cuzco, recepción y traslado al hotel elegido, para su descanso y aclimatación. A las 13:45 aprox. realizará el City Tour de la ciudad del Cuzco, visitando los principales atractivos turísticos como: La Plaza de Armas, El Templo del Qoricancha, para luego visitar las ruinas más importantes cercanas al Cuzco: Qenqo, antiguo centro religioso; Tambomachay, denominado “Los Baños del Inca; Pucapucara y Sacsayhuaman. Retorno al Hotel seleccionado. Pernocte en Cuzco.
Día 2 – 06:30am Recojo de su hotel y traslado a la estación de Tren para abordar el servicio Expedition rumbo a Aguas Calientes, al arribo al poblado deberán dirigirse a la estación de buses y abordarlos, estos los conducirán por un camino zigzagueante hasta la entrada principal de la ciudadela donde su guía los estará esperando para iniciar el guiado por alrededor de 2horas, luego de esto tendrán un tiempo para caminar por Machupicchu, seguido deberán abordar el bus para retornar al pueblo de Aguas calientes donde tendrán un almuerzo buffet incluido, considerando que su tren de retorno a Cuzco sale a las 4:40pm, deberán estar en la estación de tren 30 minutos antes de la salida, al arribo a Cuzco, nuestro personal los estará esperando para trasladarlos hasta su hotel en Cuzco. Option 2. Macchu Picchu, Cusco: 4 days/ 3 nights
Opción 2. Macchu Picchu, Cusco: 4 días / 3 noches
Day 1 – Arriving in Cusco a guide will wait for you at the airport to transport you to the hotel of your choice for rest and acclimation. At 13:45 pm, visit of the City of Cusco and its principal attractions: Plaza de Armas; Temple of Qorikancha and the ruins of Qenqo, Tambomachay Pucapucara and Sacsayhuman. Return to the selected Hotel. Participants spend the night in Cusco.
Day 2 – 8 am, the guide picks up the group from the hotels and drives offers a visit to the handicraft market of Pisac, the city of Urubamba where participants will enjoy a lunch buffet and later the city of Ollantaytambo, where the guide will lead the group to the train station to board on the 7:00 pm train to Aguas Calientes. The hotel personnel will be waiting for the group at the train station and will drive them to the hotel El Mapi. Participants spend the night in Aguas Calientes.
Day 3 – Early in the morning, at 6:00 am, participants board the bus to go to Macchu Picchu, the guide will provide a 2 hours tour of the City and Macchu Picchu. The group returns to Agua Calientes where they will be offered a lunch buffet. Around 4:00 pm participants return to train station. The train leaves at 4:40 pm. Back in Cusco, the guide will wait for the group to drive them back to their selected hotels.
Day 4 – Breakfast at the hotel and transport to the airport.
Día 1- Arribo al aeropuerto de Cuzco, recepción y traslado al hotel elegido, para su descanso y aclimatación. A las 13:45 pm realizará el City Tour de la ciudad del Cuzco, visitando los principales atractivos turísticos como: La Plaza de Armas, El Templo del Qoricancha, para luego visitar las ruinas más importantes cercanas al Cuzco: Qenqo, antiguo centro religioso; Tambomachay, denominado “Los Baños del Inca; Pucapucara y Sacsayhuaman. Retorno al Hotel seleccionado. Pernocte en Cuzco.
Día 2 – 8:00 am, recojo de su hotel para iniciar el tour al valle sagrado de los incas, visitando las ruinas y mercado artesanal de Pisac, seguido iremos al pueblo de Urubamba para tener un delicioso almuerzo buffet, continuando con el viaje llegaremos a Ollantaytambo, donde luego del guiado deberán dejar el grupo y dirigirse a la estación de tren, para abordar el servicio Expedition a las 7pm rumbo a Aguas calientes, donde el personal del hotel lo estará esperando para conducirlos hasta este, el guía se pondrá en contacto para explicarles sobre el tour a Machupicchu a la mañana siguiente. Pernocte en Aguas Calientes
Día 3 – Temprano en la mañana, 6:00 am aproximadamente ya pueden subir a Machupicchu para esto deberán dirigirse a la estación de buses y abordarlos, estos los conducirán por un camino zigzagueante hasta la entrada principal de la ciudadela con su guía los estará esperando para iniciar el guiado por alrededor de 2horas, luego de esto tendrán un tiempo para caminar por Machupicchu por su cuenta, seguido deberán abordar el bus para retornar al pueblo de Aguas calientes donde tendrán un almuerzo buffet incluido, considerando que su tren de retorno a Cuzco sale a las 4:40pm, deberán estar en la estación de tren 30 minutos antes de la salida, al arribo a Cuzco, nuestro personal los estará esperando para trasladarlos hasta su hotel en Cuzco. Pernocte en Cuzco.
Día 4 – Desayuno en el Hotel y a la hora acordada se les trasladara al aeropuerto.
